Updating Lync 2013 client to Skype for Business using SCCM

Hi All,

This month on patch Tuesday Microsoft released an update for Lync 2013, KB2889923. This update was released to update the Lync Clients to Skype for Business. After the installation of this update Lync automatically updates to skype for business but you still find a service named Lync.exe running in your system :) why MS didn't update the name too ?

Ok, So you can do this manually by installing KB2889923 or you can have a more agile & automated process doing this like SCCM. If you are patching your devices using SCCM & have an ADR for MS Office 2013 then you must be already having this update in your site server.

If not then here's a way how you can make it available in SCCM :-

In SCCM Console go to Administrator/Site Configuration/Site/Configure Site Components/Software Update Point -

Check Updates here :-

Run the synchronization again or if you have an ADR created for Office 2013 let it run on it's schedule.
Now, your SCCM should download KB2889923.

Once this KB is deployed on the machine Lync will be updated to Skype for Business and you don't even need a restart after this KB installation.
